Mr. Dobbyn died of smoke inhalation during a fire at his business, Delmarva Trading Co. in Grasonville, on Aug. 15, [1998]. Born in New York City, he spent his early years in Maryland, New York and New England. He graduated from Chenango Valley High School in New York in 1962 and from the University of Kentucky at Lexington, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and president of the Interfraternity Council. He also was a member of the Lamp and Cross Society. He served in the Kentucky Air National Guard, was called to active duty in Korea and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1973. In the early 1970s he moved to the Washington, D.C., area and then made Annapolis his home. He worked for Xerox Corp. where he was recognized for his outstanding sales and management performance. In 1975 Mr. Dobbyn purchased the Culpeper Oil Co. in Culpeper, Va. He subsequently formed the Delmarva Petroleum Co. with offices in Culpeper and Cambridge. In 1991 he opened the Delmarva Trading Co. in Grasonville, a used book store and consignment shop. An avid reader, he also had a passion for boating. Through the years he sailed his boats, the Douce Amie and later Windborne, and most recently his trawler, First Edition. His marriage to Elizabeth Deramus Boyd ended in divorce. Surviving are his son, Christopher Boyd Dobbyn of Mountain Brook, Ala.; his mother, Lucile J. Dobbyn of Laurel; his brother, Frank Dobbyn of Annapolis; and his sister, Victoria J. Dobbyn of Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday [August 22, 1998] at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville.
